Distributed Computing - A Crash Course
The aim of this course is to introduce the students to the basics of distributed computing, on an algorithm level. While the course will include both theory and practice, the emphasis will be on implementation and experimentation with the algorithms. Algorithms that will be studied includes leader election, distributed resource allocation, etc. Since the focus is on implementation, the main method of teaching will be laboratory assignment. Each lecture will begin with a shorter introduction of the area, and then continue with a longer practical session. The examination on the course will be based on a few hand-in assignments, both programming and theoretical.
Students are assumed to be familiar with basic operating system concepts such as concurrent processing and resource allocation problems, as well as basic network programming. All the practical work will be conducted in Java.
Anrechenbar als Vorlesung mit 3 SWS in Vertiefungsrichtung "Softwaretechnik und Übersetzerbau" bzw. Gebiet "Software-Engineering und Programmiersprachen".
Die Vorlesung findet vom 22. - 31. März 2006, jeweils von 9.00 Uhr bis 12.00 Uhr, im Hörsaal 3.31 statt.
